Opposition is trampling the spirit of the Constitution along with spreading propaganda against the NDA: PM Modi

Bhubaneswar: Accusing the opposition parties of spreading propaganda against the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said the opposition has “crushed” the spirit of the Constitution and rejected all norms of democracy.

Addressing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers here, Modi said the opposition has only one objective – to “mislead people and somehow gain power”.

Taking a dig at the opposition, he said, “People who consider power as their birthright have not been in power at the Centre for the last decade.”

The Prime Minister said it is quite natural that there will be ideological differences between political parties on various issues and they have the right to express their views and agitate.

He said, “During my tenure as Chief Minister and Prime Minister, I have seen different shades of politics. I believe that it is normal to have a constructive opposition in a democracy. There can be differences of opinion on any decision.”

Modi said that although now everyone can feel a big difference in the way protests are being held, “but the spirit of the Constitution is being crushed and all norms of democracy are being rejected.”

The Prime Minister said that from the very beginning the opposition parties were not ready to accept the fact that people have given their mandate to the BJP-led NDA.

He said, “Such political parties, deprived of power for the last one decade, are now so frustrated that they do not even hesitate to conspire against the country and its people. They are misleading people with their lies and rumour-mongering business.”

Modi said such false propaganda is a big challenge for the people of India and BJP workers and “those who love the country and respect the Constitution should be more vigilant and cautious to thwart such attempts and expose the lies.”

He also said the BJP had worked dedicatedly for the development of Odisha even when the party was not in power in the eastern state.

Modi said, “The results of the Odisha election surprised many big political experts who had completely dismissed the possibility of the BJP forming a government in the state… The electoral success of the BJP in Odisha, Haryana and Maharashtra has created a new confidence in the entire country. This is the specialty of the BJP and the capability of our workers.”

He said the BJP respects and gives priority to the rich culture and tradition of Odisha.

Modi said, “I am happy that due to the efforts of the BJP, Odisha’s tribal daughter Draupadi Murmu ji is the President of the country today. This has boosted the confidence of daughters from all sections of society. Their journey will inspire many generations to come.”

Regarding the All India DGP/IGP Conference that began in Bhubaneswar, the Prime Minister said that it is being held in Odisha for the first time, though the event has been taking place since the British era.

Modi said, “We want to make Odisha a priority not only in the country but also on the world map.”

He said that after the BJP government came to power in the state, it has implemented the National Education Policy and other central schemes.

Modi said that the BJP government has also started fulfilling the promises made during the elections in Odisha.
