Raipur, 23 February 2022 Under Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel’s dream project Suraji Gaon Yojna, Gauthan Rural Industrial Park established in villages is emerging as a vibrant center of rural economy. Where the villagers are getting employment in their village due to the activities conducted and they are also getting good income from them.
Villagers and self-help groups have been linked with small businesses adapted to the rural environment in the Gauthans, created as cattle day care centres. Gauthan is also the focal point of the country’s unique Godhan Nyay scheme, one of its kind, to procure cow dung from cattle ranchers, dung collectors and farmers at the rate of Rs.2 per kg. The activities of making vermicompost and super compost from cow dung are being conducted here. Along with this, many activities like community garden, mushroom production, fish farming, goat rearing, poultry farming, animal husbandry including making dung lamp, pot and incense sticks are being conducted by self-help groups.
Under Godhan Nyay Yojana, 63.89 lakh quintals of cow dung has been procured since inception and in return, Rs 127 crore 79 lakh crore has been paid to the dung vendors. More than 97 thousand landless villagers, including livestock farmers, farmers, women of self-help groups, dairy farm operators, got financial support from the amount received from selling cow dung in the challenging times of Corona. It was easy for them to take care of the small needs of the family.
A total of more than 15.87 lakh quintals of compost was produced from the dung procured in the Gauthans. Out of which 9.70 lakh quintals of compost has been sold so far including Vermi Compost and Super Compost, which is worth Rs 91.11 crore. Under Godhan Nyay Yojana, a dividend amount of Rs 31.34 crore has been paid to self-help groups engaged in preparation of vermi compost and Rs 48.04 crore to Gauthan committees. Under the scheme, more profit was made than what was paid in the purchase of cow dung. Along with this, the use of vermicompost increased in the fields. The scheme also helped in tackling the shortage of chemical fertilizers and the state has progressed on the path of becoming an organic state.
77 thousand 77 women of 11 thousand 477 self-help groups engaged in other activities including vermi compost in Gauthans have earned an income of Rs 51.36 crore so far, which is a great achievement achieved by rural women through their dedication and hard work. To provide more employment opportunities, 152 oil crushing mills and 173 pulse mill units are being established in Gauthan. In selected Gauthans, electricity generation has started from cow dung. An MoU has been signed for starting an enterprise to make paint from cow dung under innovation.
New ventures are being started to connect villagers and women with employment in Gauthans. MoUs have been signed for the production of organic gulal and worship material in 10 Gauthans of Raipur and Durg. In this project, women of 150 women self-help groups will produce organic gulal and worship material worth about three and a half crore rupees in a year. Apart from remuneration to women, 5% dividend will also be given from the sale proceeds of the products. Arth brand has been launched by Self Help Groups in Gauthans with an aim to increase their income through standardization and marketing of products manufactured from natural substances. 4 products from this brand, soap, essential oil, immunity tea, organic gulal prepared by self-help groups will be sold. 2123 women from 230 Gauthans engaged in the production of these products will be benefitted.
